Too Much Makeup… Totally Hot!
You hear Men and Women all the time saying that “too much makeup” is bad or can be a turn off. Its also been said that too much or certain colors can be considered trashy. In my opinion these seriously must be people speaking on a subject they know nothing about.
For those who know and understand makeup, you know that Makeup is such an individual thing and the same rules cannot be applied to everyone. Truly poor application is what can make the above statement to be true more than the makeup its self. It takes time to learn what colors work for you and how much is too much for you. You have to find the right combinations to go with your coloring, hair, etc. For some it is easier than for others. But I feel the “too much makeup” generalization is unfair.
This week my Husbands cousin is visiting from Idaho, Pale skin and blonde hair basically describes her. We started adding eyeshadow to her eyes and she went from pretty to “trying to hard” really fast. We then just put teal liner with a small wing alone on her top lid with a Little bit of MAC kid in her crease and she looked amazing. Seriously her eyes were so open and bright! It changed her completely. For her this completely worked. But If I tried wearing this look alone. I would look silly. Completely unfinished.
I think the shape of your features also plays a role in what you can wear as well. If I see someone with small lips wearing bright colors. In my opinion it is a harder look for them to pull it off. I try to use makeup to draw attention to my best features and at the same time use makeup to hide the not so great features. I’m not saying that if you choose to wear less makeup it is bad thing. I think that’s fantastic and I’m sure you look amazing. But negative words shouldn’t be spoken for those who prefer to use their self expression though their makeup!

I love what you are saying in this. I love make up with a passion and have so much of it and I have never been told that I have to much makeup on from any one. Even though I have on like 5 different shadows and like 10 things on my face along with 3 different items on my lips. lol Its not the amount of makeup its the way you look in it and how you put it on.
Thank you for pointing that out.

@ Celeste i know what you mean sometimes i count the amount of makeup on my face and i am amazed, but it's all about good application in my opinion
Sara i completely agree makeup is a personal form of expression. I had a lady tell me once that i shouldn't wear bright colors in the fall..i laughed and ask her where that was written because in makeup there are no rules.

@Celeste- Im glad you understand. I hate when people go off on this subject. Its not relevant. People have to wear alot of makeup to look like they are not wearing alot of makeup. so silly.
@Mama Jen- Exactly. When people ask me what I wear and I actually start telling them.. they look at me crazy. but I dont look like I wear a ton except if I have dramatic eyes or whatever… No rules! Just fun:)

It all depends on the person, makeup quality and how well it is applied really.

@Spyder- Agreed. i mentioned that above. I think application is what can make a person look bad in alot of makeup. verses the makeup its self in most cases.

This is very insightful. I actually wrinkled my forehead in thought. I would always say “too much makeup is yuck” but you are right, too much make up IS yuck IF you do not know the proper application and use suitable colors.

You can never wear to much makeup..you are so right

I totally agree! In my early 20s I had a friend who often told me “You wear too much eye makeup.” It kind of hurt my feelings because I didn’t think I did. Later as I matured in makeup, I realized I just didn’t know how to properly apply and blend my eye makeup.

I totally undertand! People come to that conclusion in their own time. I never really thought that there was a right or wrong way to apply. Just avoid a foundation thats too dark or blush that is too much color. Those were about the only lessons in makeup I had growing up lol!~ But I am so glad we know what we know now! xoxo
