Rant: Urban Decay Mineral Powder :(
As I walking through my local Macy’s last week one of the girls from the Urban Decay counter stopped me and asked if I wanted to try their mineral powder. The timing could not have been better since I was on my way to the MAC store to pick up more loose powder at the time.
The Sales Associate dusted some mineral powder on my face but of course Its hard to form a true opinion inside the store especially on top of your already finished face. I assumed it was fine so I purchased it.
But when I used it the next day I was not a fan!
1- The container sucks! The spongy thing on top takes a lot of effort to start the flow of powder through the top. Thankfully the top does screw off so I was able to dip my brush in directly instead. However my kabuki was bigger than the container so this wasn’t exactly simple either.
2- The color the SA gave me was too dark. Great. So I started to think of how I could make it work. First thought was to break out the self tanner and darken my whole upper body to match. Unfortunately no time. So instead I wore the powder as is and left the house.
3- This stuff caked up on my face! During the day I scratched my cheek and the powder was all under my nail. uggh right? Then I had to try and buff out my cheek but since I don’t carry bronzer or blush with me this was not easy. (I know it wasn’t my foundation because I wore the same foundation as I had been every other day and never felt that way.)
4- Forth and Final- One of the selling points of the powder was that it would absorb oils and keep me matte all day. Oh No No. This was not the case. I was a greasy mess before lunch.
I am not a fan of returning items but I had 4 reasons to get rid of it and couldn’t find 1 to keep it. So I returned it…
This of course is only my experience with the item. Hopefully anyone else that try’s the powder will have a better experience … Have you tried this product? What are your thoughts?
P.S Dont get me wrong. I love Urban Decay. Most products I have tried have been fabulous. Just imo… not this one.

I hate sales assistants I don't know for this very reason.
I always try to kindly explain that I have to try things out first in natural light and to make sure I don't have a reaction to a new product and some get all narky.
I'm sorry, if I'm spending good money on a product, they should understand that forcing a sale is only going to harm their brand's reputation if it goes wrong.
And most of the time when they've been that adamant for a sale anyway, I've found that the product doesn't live up to the hype and I never use it!
Not that this sales assistant seemed to be quite as forward to the ones I'm referring too, but still, if I haven't dealt with them before, how do I know that they understand what I want (and most importantly, need) in a product?
I still find it difficult to return cosmetics if I've used it, even if it's totally wrong for me in the end. It's uncomfortable to have to do it so good on you for returning it. You definitely did the right thing.
Thanks for sharing your honest opinions about the product too. It helps us all understand exactly what to look out for if we do end up trying it ourselves!

Ohhh no that horrible! I'm glad I didn't buy this. so sorry it was so bad hun. luckily you returned it
Oh nooo! thats terrible…I'm glad you chose to return it. The lighting is always horrible in department stores. I'm not really a big fan of UD powders, I looovee Makeup Forever HD products. Hope all is well <3
im sorry you went through that!
Urban decay seems like a terrible like for foundations and i think it totally limits their line and repuation.
thanks for the review lovely!
ughh that freaking suckss.
thank goodness you returned it! and thanks for letting us know!
March you butt back in to Macy's and return the damn thing! Do not feel about it or even slightly guilty, people do it all the time and the color doesn't match – clearly the UD girl just wanted to make a sale – and you were a cakey globy mess! Get your money BACK! and ask for samples for your troubles hehehe
I would be so upset too- good thing you returned it! Now I know not to bother with this product..Urban Decay shadows are gorgeous though
I'm actually looking for a mineral powder foundation and currently use Everyday Minerals- would you recommend MAC?
I have not tried it but now I know not to. Pity though because UD has some other great products.
@ Miss Neesh- I know exactly what you mean. I totally agree. I never return anything. I always try and swap or whatever if I dont like it. But this was just to far off for me. Not just me not liking the color ya know… But I hate the pressure. ugg
@ Miss K You @Melian22- I love UD shadows, lipsticks are fabulous the liners rock. This is the only product of theirs I have tried and not liked. I am definitely not discounting the brand. just this item was not for me!
@ Everyone Thanks so much for your comments!!!
I had been wanting to try this for awhile. I'm glad I read your review because I have oily skin and I get shiny right away too, so this probably wouldn't work for me either.
Counter Assistants always seem to be able to push me into a purchase! Sometime you wish you could just be given a few minutes to look for yourself!
Sorry to hear about the powder. I too love Urban Decay I think they have some of the best eyeshadows out there but any time I have ventured into their foundation/powder I have been disappointed.
Hope you get it returned ok

Aw, that sucks.
I have no problem returning anything. lol
I'm going to second the comment above mine. I had thought about trying this as I do like Urban Decay products but I think I might pass now. Thanks for the info!
i'm sorry it didn't work out for you. urban decay has great products but there has to be some duds too
I love this powder, but the container really does suck. I've never tried to use that sponge thing it comes with. The one I have is also too dark, but since I've been wearing self tanner I'm able to use it.
this product doesn;t sound that good to try out.
i feel the same way about returning products.I've done it once at MAC and i felt bad because i know they are suppose to just throw it away. how sad
@!Lipglossgossip- I definitely am not trying to discourage anyone from using the product. Everyone is different. Just sharing my experience.
@Lyndsey @Mama Jen @Rai@glitterishallsorts- – Yes. no problem returning except for a few dirty looks from the sales girl. But its ok, I buy a ton of makeup and never return anything. I was at ease with it!
@Crystal @ Tiff- I have plenty of brands that I love bits ans pieces of. It wont stop me from purchasing from UD in the future. Its just this one product that didn't work for me. As much as I love MAC there are a few products I dont like as well as others too. @Tif- I glad it worked for you!
I love UD products! but glad I read your post. Im really not a big fan of mineral makeup though so I might have skipped this one too. I really love RCMA's setting powder
