My Little Black Dress Journey… RANT! A Must Read!

Submitted by Sara on December 3, 2009 – 6:40 pm10 Comments

I have been eyeing a couple of the new Barbie Stila items recently. I have attempted to talk myself out of purchasing them for the last few weeks because we both know I need no more makeup!
A couple nights ago the lemming finally overpowered me and I decided I must have Stila Barbie Little Black Dress smudge pot. So I get on the Stilas website and I see Little Black Dress as part of a kit for $35.00. So I ordered!
So we all understand that a kit/set is a combination of items for one price. Right?
Why did Stila ship the “kit/set” without Little Black Dress and tell me they were out of stock on that product. I ordered ONE item. A KIT. If the site was not shipping me the entire kit. Shouldn’t have that been told to me prior to shipping?
So I instantly email and call Stila Customer service in the nicest possible way explaining the same way I have explained for you all. I never received a call back but recevied an email so graciously telling me I can return the unwanted portion of the kit I received for a credit. However shipping to return the item would not be reimbursed.
Can anyone see why I am upset yet?
So after writing to Stila again (with no response) with my concern that I should not have to pay to return the “partial kit” that I did not want- I started googling to see where else I could purchase the smudge pot that I was looking for.
One of the first few sites that I came across was Zappos.com. I had no ideas you could purchase makeup from this site. But when I saw the Little Black Dress Smudge pot available on the site AND on the top of the page a banner advertising free shipping I ordered without another thought! ALSO after completing my purchase I realized I didn’t pay sales tax either. You know I was already pretty excited and now In addition to this a few hours later I get an email from Zappos telling me as a courtesy my order has been expedited shipping included and I had my beautiful Smudge pot the very next day!
Could one site learn a few tricks from another, I would hope so! Zappos came in and fixed a situation for me when they didnt even do or know anything was wrong AND Stila can’t seem to be bothered to make their problem right.
To add some icing to the cake. Why does the Smudge pot Show available today on Stilacosmetics.com?
