Two Drugstore Eye Makeup Removers- Tested

By  |  20 Comments

I have avoided visiting my MAC store (and the new collections) for the last couple of months and haven’t even come close to entering the doors in fear of bringing home alot of beautiful items I dont need in a moment of weakness. So right before  I am out of eye makeup remover I picked up a bottle of CVS Brand Eye Makeup remover  that I had heard worked well.First time using this I couldn’t get all of my eye makeup off! I really had to work to remove all of my eyeliner -which left my eyes a little irritated when I was through..Later this week when I went to Costco I saw a three pack of Neutrogena Oil Free Eye makeup Remover for $14.99, so I picked that up to replace the CVS bottle that wasnt working for me at home. I really debated getting this since It was again a brand I never tried and I would really hate to have 4 bottles of eye makeup remover that didnt work! Yet still I brought them home. That evening when I removed my makeup I was pleased with how easily my eye makeup wiped off with this remover. It says Oil free but It still did feel a tiny bit oily. But not enough to be bothersome.

I applied L’Oreal Creme Eyeliner (midnight blue) on my hand and let it dry. I took a q-tip and dipped it in each remover. CVS on the left and Neutrogena on the right. I used 3 strokes and above you can see the result. I used the CVS to remove the rest of the liner from my hand. The CVS Remover did take it all off. But it was alot more work. On my hand it took alot of rubbing, I cant imagine how my eye would feel after the same process!

I’ve tried Neutrogena Oil Free makeup remover, and it’s nice, especially for a drugstore product. My favorite makeup remover at the moment is Clinique’s Cleansing Balm. It feels a little oily but it washes off really clean. I just gently massage it all over my face, and it gets everything off! Sunscreen, waterproof mascara, gel eyeliner… you name it, the cleansing balm gets it off. It is a bit pricey, but totally worth it since my eyelashes are lasting longer!

Thank you for this! I am always looking for new removers to try! I use wipes for my face and separate eye remover. I never seem to find one that can do it all at once!! This sounds perfect!

blugh that stuff stinks, i really love lancome’s bifacil waterproof eyemake remover – same baby blue bottle with a two layer liquid inside, the perfect dupe however? at cvs the brand lumene sells the exact same product that works just as wonderful for fractions of the cost. *hugs*

That Neutrogena oil free makeup remover is my HG! Maybe I’ll have to see if I can make my way to a Costco in the near future to check if they have the 3 packs as well. I sure go through enough of the stuff! :)

I recently tried the Clinique take the day off makeup remover for lids, lashes and lips. And it works great!!! I have the tiny travel size but as soon as I’m all done with it I’ll be diffinently be purchasing the full size. I was hoping u liked the Neutrogena since its cheaper. But i recommend Clinique.

Not necessarily a drug store brand, but I actually like using Mary Kay’s eye makeup remover. I have 2 bottles left, so when I’m through with it, I’ve been wanting to try the Neutrogena I love your little Makeup Snob Seal. On a separate note, how did you come up with your logo? I want one but I am clueless! hahaha

I have heard so many things about mary kay remover! I never think about this brand, I am not sure why. Out of site out of mind I guess! lol

I play around with blog design and stuff so I am constantly editing images, etc. So my logo just kind of came together one day when I was playing around. I found my girl that I loved and just started pasting fonts, etc from there! lol. Try looking in stock art sites to find images you think fit you. Then you can personalize them. Cheap stock art is at fotolia.com or vectorstock.com those are the sites I use most often :)

I have been using the Mary Kay Eye Makeup Remover and LOVE IT! I’ve been using it for a few years really like it. I wanted to read about the Neutrogena brand one since it’s less expensive, but I hear mixed reviews. The Mary Kay was works fantastically, especially on my waterproof mascara and eye liner. It comes off quickly with no rubbing. I used to use Mary Kay products all the time when my college friend’s mom was selling their products. I just started using their makeup again and really like it. It is as nice as Clinique but a lot less expensive, and it’s delivered to your door. So far I’m very happy with my new products, and sticking to the MK makeup remover.

HI Lauren! Thanks for your comment! I have heard so many good things about Mary Kay makeup remover. I havent tried it though! I do like the neutragena for sure… I wear a ton of eye makeup and my liner and mascara is hard to remove and for me this product removes better than even the mac pro makeup remover. But I think I may have to check out your suggestion next time around! xoxo! Sara

I dislike the CVS brand makeup remover!! I bought it cause i was in need of it when i was out of town and i got to say it was like taking it off with water!! lol i love neutrogena that’s the one i use all the time but one day when i was at target they were out and grabbed the up&up (target brand) and it was good for me, since then i’ve bought a couple times the up&up brand and it does its job.. ;)

I just purchased the new CVS oil-free eye makeup remover the other day because I was out of Neutrogena. I debated over the choice for a bit, but the price was good so I went for it. I’ll say first that I’ve been using Neutrogena liquid remover for a few years and I wear makeup daily. I was dissapointed in the CVS Brand. The first few swipes didn’t take all the make up off. It took many, in fact, to get most of it off.(I was only wearing mascara and liner.) My eyes were very irritated by this repeat action. There is a fragrance to the CVS brand that I would imagine shouldn’t be there since some of the product does get in to the eyes. I wonder if that causes some of the irritation. I will not continue to use the CVS Brand or recommend it. I can wipe off different shades of shadow, mascara, and liner in three smooth swipes per eye with the Neutrogena product. No rubbing and no irritation. Thatworth the extra $3. (I hope this review helps.)
