Review of SKR Hair 18 inch Hair Extensions ( skrhair.com ) after months of use

fotd using the skr hair extensions
I have used clip in hair extensions over the last couple years. I have tried 2 other products from John Renau, the EasiXtend HD clip ins as well as the EasiVolume Remy Extension. You can find those details by clicking the links. I chose these pieces originally because I knew nothing about hair and buying from a large company was more comfortable for me at that point especially with there being so many different options to choose from.
This time around I decided to venture out. Not that I know that much more about hair, but I can give you my experience from my usage. I narrowed it down to 3 different companies online while obsessively reading reviews and comparing options until I finally decided to go with clip in Extensions from SKRhair (SKR hair.) When you visit the site you will see they offer 3 different options.
- 16 inch in length- 165 gm weight for $145.05
- 18 inch in length- 175 gm weight for $153.20 all with free shipping word wide.
- 20 inch in length- 185 gm weight for $161.35
SKR Hair offers 14 shades and a helpful color description for each one. Picking a color is the hardest. I felt I was between the Dark Brown and Natural Black. In the picture the Dark Brown looks much lighter than my hair and the Natural Black appeared a closer fit. But in real life my hair is not black so I decided to go with the lighter shade and dye it darker if necessary.
I ordered the 18inch set in Dark Brown. I chose these extensions because of the quality of the hair that I had felt I had seen in the reviews and the weight of the hair was my primary deciding factor. My hair is very thick. So a heavy weight/volume is a must. I could have definitely purchased 2 packages of a cheaper alternative to get volume but if you have used clip in extensions before you know that you run out of places to clip the hair as you are blending and of course the less clips in your hair for people to spot the better!
I ordered on January 26th and received on Feb 4th. So I have been wearing these daily for almost 3 weeks. When I received the product I was immediately impressed by the thickness and the softness of the hair. I wanted to wear the extensions straight but once applied I felt the hair looked choppy with all the layers in my own hair plus the different lengths of the extensions due to placement. So I curled up the ends with my flatiron using 300 degree temperatures. The moment I did this the texture of the hair changed. The spots that I curled felt so dry and damaged Instantly…
(more details on this further down)
The dark brown color did happen to be a little lighter than my hair color. So I picked up a box of L’Oreal Preference drug store dye in shade 4 Dark Brown. This was a great match. After using the flat iron and seeing how brittle the ends were feeling on the extensions after I dyed the hair I applied a deep conditioner on the hair and left it for a couple hours. After rinsing I applied Moroccan oil to the hair and left them to dry overnight. The next morning the hair was very soft but the ends were still not what they originally were.
I love the way these extensions look and feel. Even though the ends feel dry you would never tell by looking at them. The softness and the thickness of the hair is amazing. But after using the flat iron the first time and seeing the damage it caused I am now too scared to put any real heat on them so the only way I am wearing them now is curly. I use Conair hot rollers to curl the hair after they dry and they look gorgeous. Even during a rainy or humid day my own hair will start to straighten out but the extensions will keep their curl without a styling product.
Most people dont even know I wear extensions or that this hair isnt mine. After being pregnant all last year, a majority of the time I was wearing my hair in a bun and then after I was out on leave for a few months, so when I came back rocking this new hair no one was the wiser and people love to tell me how good my prenatal vitamins were for my hair. They truly look fantastic.
Thoughts
- Thickness- the cost for this weight of hair is totally reasonable.
- Weight- Even though these extensions are thick and not my own I the hair is lightweight and easy to wear.
- Quality of hair- I think the quality is nice. I don’t have a lot to compare it too, but I can say its pretty comparable to my own hair and my own hair is healthy. It does bother me how quickly the hair was damaged on the ends but I would think oils or protectants prior to using heat tools should help.
- Versatility- I feel like I need two packages of hair to be able to create more looks with them. I’m afraid if I used hot tools on them too often they wouldn’t last as long. So I may in future purchase another package and keep them straight.
- Repurchase? After scouring the internet looking at the options available and comparing costs I definitely will re purchase these extentions and use what I have learned to care for them in advance. I will keep you updated as I wear them.
Here are some pictures of me wearing the extensions. My mornings have been pretty chaotic lately since I have been back to work so I haven’t been able to take any before and after pictures. I plan to do that this week and replace these pictures with those so you can see how the extensions change my hair.

before and after SKRhair Extensions ( probably shouldn’t have worn black, lol)

These are all phone images but hopefully they give you a sense of the hair while I work on the other shots. Any questions? OR Have you tried them? Let me know~!UPDATE- 04.01.2013- Hey Beauties! Just wanted to check in with you. I have been wearing the SKR Hair Extensions just about daily for the last two months. I have been washing them every week to week and a half. I still have not put any real heat on them since the first time except hot rollers after washing and letting them air dry. They still look fantastic. But they are SO dry. If this were my own hair I would have chopped off inches already to regain some softness but I just dont want to loose the length with these. They have quite a bit of split ends which I didnt even imagine possible for extensions but I guess it makes sense. I have spent a good few hours today looking at other hair extensions to replace these with already. Yes two months and I am already wishing for new soft hair…

I have had exactully the same results with mine as you have. I was out on maternity leave until the middle of January and started wearing my SKR extentsions everyday as soon as I went back to work. I think they still look great, but the ends are super dry and annoying. I think I am going to trim a inch off and see how they feel after.

Only thing I suggest is washing them less often. Washing them once a week even a week and a half is too soon. try to monimize the amount that you wash them. Also make sure that you’re using a heat protectant. They look awesome on you though! <3 Thanks for the review!
